The Village Screen

5 star review

Pop Up Cinema

Pop up Cinemas are fantastic. They bring two things I love together; cinema and the outdoors. There is something strangely appealing about enjoying a great film in the open air. They have been around in Europe and London for a while but over the last year our very own Sheffield has had a piece of the action, thanks to 'The Village Screen'.

The Village Screen

Claire Hunt is the mastermind behind The Village Screen. Moving back to Sheffield after living in the 'big smoke', Claire wanted to bring her love for outdoor cinema to the steel city. The Full Monty was the first screening held on top of Q-Park in Sheffield and it was a success. It's easy to see why. A great film, overlooking the fantastic city of Sheffield whilst tucking into a tasty burger.

After the success of the first screening there have been events held at Hathersage Swimming Pool, Ecclesall woods and an unused warehouse space in Kelham Island. What makes The Village Screen successful is the variety you get from one event to the next. Whether you are watching from a rubber dinghy or a comfy deckchair, each experience is unique.

Romeo and Juliet

The Baz Luhrmann classic, Romeo and Juliet, is the next screening which will be held at Sheffield's iconic Park Hill Flats. Baz Luhrmann is well known for big, extravagant productions and this event will pay tribute to that with a fully stocked bar, music and street food. The evet is on the 22nd April and doors to the event open at 6pm with the screening starting at 8:15pm.

Whistle Video thoughts

If you love film and the great outdoors as much as we do then we cannot recommend The Village Screen enough. Each event feels like a well oiled film production. Plenty of friendly staff are on hand to serve food and drinks - keeping you well stocked up to enjoy the film even more.

Though we love Sheffield, it can sometimes be a little on the nippy side. It's a good idea to take along a blanket and maybe a hot water bottle to keep you nice and toasty!

If you want a unique night out then The Village Screen is for you!
