A Bigger Splash (2015)

This film reminded me of a swimming pool as a child. Two thirds of the way in and your head's above water, go any further and you need to get out.

It all started with such promise. Ralph Fiennes steals the show. Everytime he is on screen, whether he was dancing, singing or just being Ralph Fiennes, I had a smile on my face. The other three main roles were also fantastic in their own right. Tilda Swinton was especially captivating, even with very little dialogue. However, after around an hour things seemed to dry up.

There is a point in the film, which I won't spoil, that would have been a great ",,. and roll credits" moment. But the film continues on down a strange and unecessary route. It feels like they had to fill time so they wedged in an extra hour to tick a 'feature film' box. I felt like this was a a real shame because everything about the film had me hooked. The characters were varied and believable, it was beautifully shot and the score was fantasitc.

I just wish the film was called 'A smaller splash'.
